I just got a new puppy, when should he have his first groom? We recommend dogs are fully vaccinated before they get groomed. Most puppies should be fully vaccinated around four months. If they need to be groomed before this, they can be done, but it is to their benefit to at least have their first boosters. This is for their protection as well as the protection of others.
How often should my dog be groomed? Most breeds should be groomed every 6-8 weeks. We offer a $5 discount to those regular clients who prebook every 6-8 weeks. It is easier on the dog when they are maintained and groomed regularly. Can I watch while my dog is being groomed? It is very distracting to your pet when you are in the shop during the grooming. It usually makes our job more difficult and upsets your pet, and the other pets in the shop, unnecessarily. We prefer you allow us to do the job we are trained and experienced to do and return your pet to you promptly and happy.
My dog was sprayed by a skunk. Can you get this smell out? There are so many suggestions available on the Internet regarding skunk spray, many of them very good. It is, in fact, easiest for you to treat your dog at home immediately following the incident. If you are unable to do so yourself, we do provide skunk spray cleaning service, with an additional $20 charge on top of the regular grooming fee. We use Skunk Off which you can purchase at most Veterinary Clinics. As the smell does linger in the shop, we try and book these at the end of the day as a courtesy to our other clients. Dogs are often sprayed in the face, and since we must be careful around the eyes, etc., it is difficult to remove 100% of the smell. The face is a delicate area to treat but even with Skunk Off, some smell will remain on your pet and be more evident the next time your pet gets damp/wet. This will fade in time, and/or with additional Skunk Off treatments.
Help! My dog has fleas! What can I do? There are excellent flea control products you can purchase through your veterinarian. With the advent of flea prevention medication available from the vet, we rarely see any dogs with fleas anymore. If you know your dog has fleas, please treat him before you bring him in for grooming. Dogs that arrive with fleas (even unbeknownst by the owner) will be treated automatically at the owners expense. This is for the protection of our other clients pets.
How often should I bath my dog? Over bathing caused matting and washes away the natural oils in your dogs skin. This leads to dry skin and other problems. Keep bathing your dog to a minimum and always brush the coat our thoroughly after a bath.
My dog is matted, what can I do? De-matting a dog hurts them! We will gladly de-mat a dog within reason. This does cost extra, as it does require extra time. We will explain what we recommend at the time of drop off. The hair does grow aback and shaving a very matted dog is often the most humane option.
